Matthew 6:19-24

❤️ EXPLORE

  1. What were some of the earliest messages your remember learning (implicit and explicit) about giving and generosity? How well do those lessons align with what the Bible teaches about giving and generosity?
  2. Jesus often talked about money. Why do you think He emphasized it so much in His teachings?
  3. Does God actually need us to give anything?  Why or why not?
  4. The Bible (especially Proverbs) encourages planning, gathering resources, and saving.. How does this teaching fit with Jesus’ instruction not to store up treasures on Earth?
  5. What do you think are treasures in heaven? How do you store them up?
  6. Why does joy (or cheerfulness) matter to God when we give? What can we do if our initial reaction to giving is something other than joy?
  7. Generosity, like any discipline, takes practice. What steps could you take to grow in your generosity?

🙏 PRAY

Heavenly Father, teach us to trust you in all aspects of our lives. We acknowledge all things our yours. You do not need us, yet you graciously invite us to be part of bringing your kingdom into this world. Provide for us, lead us, and help us to see this life in light of the next. Give us the courage to invest with eternity in view. Amen.

ACTION

Invite God to examine your heart when it comes to giving and generosity. This week, take a step of generosity that feels challenging for you, and pray for God to fill you with joy as you give.
